TACOMA, WA. – The Tacoma Stars, in partnership with Washington Premier FC, announced their technical staff for the USL League Two team which will begin play this spring in the Northwest Division.
The staff will be led by Liviu Bird, who most recently coached Oly Town FC to a playoff spot in USL League Two in 2023 along with coaching two youth teams at Washington Premier. Bird is a Highline College and Seattle Pacific University alum who is originally from Fairbanks, Alaska.
“I’m excited to join a historic club such as the Tacoma Stars and bring USL League Two back to Pierce County and the city of Tacoma,” Bird said. “Between the talent on the indoor team and the players who have been developed at Washington Premier FC, we will have a great player pool to choose from this summer. We will strive to provide a professional environment for players to take the next step in their career, as well as putting a great product on the field that our fans can enjoy.”
Prior to his time at Oly Town, Bird spent two seasons as an assistant at Pacific Lutheran University where he helped guide the team to the NCAA Second Round in each season while winning the 2021 Washington State Super Cup with Washington Premier FC’s under-23 team.
Liviu’s coaching resume also includes time as the video analyst coach for Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer, an assistant coach with the Seattle Sounders FC U-23, and head coach of the Kitsap Pumas.
Assisting Bird will be a pair of coaches with multiple championships to their credit. Adam Becker won a pair of titles with Washington Premier in 2018 and 2019. In 2015 he led South Sound FC to the USASA U23 National Championship, and he currently serves on the coaching staff of the MASL Tacoma Stars and WISL Stars Reserves.
Tacoma Stars MASL veteran and Stars Reserves coach Steve Mohn will round out the technical staff for the League Two team. In addition to his time with the Stars and Washington Premier FC, Mohn has won multiple NWAC Championships as the head coach of Highline Community College.
