GU-17 WPFC Black Wins State Championship
From the GU17 Sideline: With the last hope of the day for WPFC to bring home another Cup, the Girls U-17 WPFC Black and coach Brian VanB took to the stadium field at Starfire to kick off against the NW Nationals Red at 2pm.  Due to some previous overtime games and on the field injuries on the same field, the game got started about 1 hour behind schedule.  Our girls came out strong but with 1 mishap 8 minutes in, we found ourselves down 1-0.  Knowing that on any given day, anything can happen, the WPFC girls tightened up the ranks.  Maybe that goal was the shot in the arm they needed to excel beyond and bring home the trophy.   A 0-1 halftime score would only fuel their fire as they came out stronger and more determined than ever. The defense played the way they had played all season by not allowing a shot in the second half.  This team was built on teamwork and the passing surrounded the NWN's as Chelsie Jennings broke free on the left side of the field and slotted the equalizer to the far post. Shortly after some point blank saves by the keeper, WPFC struck again, this time with Megan Lindsay finding the back of the net.  To put the icing on the cake, Megan again was fed the ball on the right side and looped one over the keeper for the third and final goal.  Final score WPFC 3, NWN 1! A state championship for a team that had been so close for so many years. Congratulations to the WPFC '90 Black Girls U-17 team. Congratulations also to coach Brian VanB who added another championship to an already long list of titles.  On to Hawaii and the Region IV tournament.
